Basic Necessities offers just that—the basic necessities. Whether it is a memorable meal out, the makings for a cozy evening by the fire at home, or a spur of the moment picnic in the mountains, we have the necessities. Our shop carries coffees, teas, salsas, pastas and olives in addition to our well-known selection of cheeses, wines and breads. Oh, and it is hard to leave without picking up a bottle of Kay’s homemade French bistro salad dressing. During the summer we will even provide organic greens to go with it and a bouquet of fresh flowers for your table! And what would a romantic evening or afternoon be without chocolate? We have scrumptious imported chocolate bars as well as desserts that will keep you coming back.

When Bev left her job working in a wonderful bookstore in Wooster, Ohio to move to the Blue Ridge Mountains, her friends asked, “What kind of shop is called Basic Necessities and doesn't have books?” Well, we DO have books. Exciting news is that we are reprinting the popular Basic Necessities Soup Cookbook in which Kay's mother, Sue Pfaltz, shares her famous recipes.
