Necessities invites you to discover us. A café, wine and cheese
shop, we are nestled in the Rockfish Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains
in Nellysford, Virginia. Since 1997 we have been offering “a
taste of Europe in the Blue Ridge Mountains.” We specialize
in great wines at affordable prices, imported cheeses, fresh baked
bread, delicious meals, and a friendly atmosphere. Tuesday through
Saturday we welcome locals, skiers, and anyone who happens to be exploring
Nelson Country to come for a relaxing lunch, a glass of wine, or afternoon
tea. We feature Sue Pfaltz’s delicious and innovative soups,
our big house salad, and seasonal specialties. Reservations are advised
for our Friday and Saturday night dinners where guests enjoy thoughtfully
prepared food and musical entertainment. Sundays we offer brunch from
10-3 and frequently have a harpist during the middle of the day.
At Basic Necessities Kay Pfaltz, our founder, merges her knowledge of French wines and cheeses with Beverly Lacey and Keith Dix of Blue Heron Farm, to create the unique atmosphere and cuisine that has earned Basic Necessities its many followers. We invite you to become one of them.
